Wheatbelt Cricket - Inaugural Country Cup Team

Saturday 4th - Sunday 5th of October saw the inaugural Wheatbelt Team compete in the Belt Up Country Cup hosted in Geraldton.

When the opportunity came up to nominate a team, it was a great chance to showcase our Wheatbelt Players.

The team consisted of 11 players from within the Avon, Wyalkatchem, Eastern Districts and Northam Cricket Associations. Coaching the side was Garrick Yandle (EDCA) and Team Manager was Melinda Williams (Wheatbelt Cricket Secretary).

The Belt Up Country Cup had 6x Men’s teams and 2x Women’s teams across the weekend. Our fixtures would have had us playing 4x T20’s across Saturday and Sunday, unfortunately due to the weather we only managed to play 3 of those 4 games. The results are listed below:

Game 1: Sat 4th October

Geraldton 8/89 def by Wheatbelt 5/90

Batting: Blair Barratt 36* & Tom Bennier 16

Bowling: Brady Garner 2/11, Tom Bennier 2/11 & Thomas Moore 2/15.

Game 2: Sat 4th October

BMRCA 4/189 defeated Wheatbelt 82

Batting: Thomas Moore 29

Bowling: Blair Barratt 2/31

Game 3: Sun 5th October -Final 5th vs 6th

We are very happy with the team’s effort for the weekend given that this was, as quoted by Mel “this is the first time these guys have played together as a team, they’ve all played against each other at Country Week, but never as a team” 🙌🏼
